My large fabric collages combine the bright colors and bold shapes of African fabric with the softer colors and motifs of decorative American household fabrics; alternately juxtaposing and merging the symbols and styles of the two cultures.

Each piece starts with an acrylic painting from a life model. I love the energy that my paintings have when I work in short, focused bursts with the model.

Placing the different motifs and pieces of fabric patterns, I create an environment for each figure, alternately hiding or revealing the painting beneath, as I become immersed in the story each painting has to tell.
