I create large scale drawings and art works on paper, some of which are embellished with gold leaf, gouache and watercolor, or beading around the edges and into the surface of the paper.
I primarily focus on self-portraiture; my pieces reflect my life and thoughts as a mother, a wife, and a woman in contemporary American society. I do not view self-portraits as mere illustrated recreations of the self; I frequently use my self image as though I were an actor under the affectation of a role. Sometimes I am simply playing myself and these works are detachedly recording minute personal stories as though from a journal.
Another facet of my art includes more sentimental and fantastical drawings that border on illustration. These works on paper feature children and storybook-style imagery and the intention of capturing mysterious and magical moments of childhood.
