My art is heavily influenced by artists from the New York School of the 1950s and 60s. Artists at that time were improvising and drawing from their emotions. Their work evolved into what is commonly referred to as abstract expressionism. I am so intensely drawn to the energy and excitement of this period of art. These artists were pioneers and somehow intuitively new how to express raw emotion. They were unified in their approach and their work was larger, and more expressive than anything that had preceded it. My inspiration draws from the awe-inspiring work of Rothko, Esteban Vicente, Hartigan, Franz Kline and Frankenthaler to name a few. Scale, color, form and the life force of each stroke of paint is what is meaningful to me. Finding that moment of revelation when I can most honestly and truthfully express myself through line, form, color and shape. This is how I communicate. This is when I allow the innocence of my feelings and imagination to truly run free. I believe that art is the most fundamental source of communication. It is a vital part of our society and connects one generation to the next. It provides comfort joy and comradery, and allows us to assess what is going on and lay the groundwork for what is coming next.
