It all begins with my subject. First I see the beauty, the color, the negative space surrounding my organic subject, contouring its sensual shapes. As I continue to observe fine details, I sink deeper into the image and discover there is more perfection to uncover the deeper I go.I am attracted to the beauty and the colors of flowers and fruit like the bee is drawn to pollen. There is an interesting parallel between my artistic experience and the bee. A bee flies to the flower to collect pollen, which not only benefits the bee but also helps the flowers to pollinate and reproduce. Pollinating and drawing botanicals are time-sensitive work. Like the bee, I am attracted to my natural subjects at their peak, but the beauty is already fading, changing and transforming as I continue to look. I am also attracted to the fading of the flower, leaves and the rest of beautiful decay. There is beauty in the process. Initially, I think I understand all of what I see. Yet the longer I look the
deeper and closer I get, the more nature’s intricate design and exquisite engineering is revealed. It is a meditation, born of a spiritual and energetic connection that nourishes me.
